She is Associate Professor of Physiology; she is head of the Cellular and Molecular Physiology laboratory of the Biometec Department of the University of Catania. Her research fields mainly concern a) the study of the mechanisms underlying the processes of neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation and intercellular communication in homeostasis and disorders of the nervous system; b) the application of advanced technologies aimed at the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to cancer. 

The skills developed in these research fields are documented by a robust and continuous scientific production as well as by the responsibility, as Principal Investigator, of numerous research projects in collaboration with important interdisciplinary networks. She is currently delegated by the Rector as Coordinator of the "Center for Advanced Preclinical in vivo Research" and director of the II level Master in "Molecular and translational imaging: from preclinical to clinical”.
